Senate Race 18 & House Race 43 Update:
12:15 pm. Neshoba County Democrat is reporting that Incumbent Giles Ward (R) maintains a razor thin lead over Steven Kilgore (D) after absentee votes have been counted in Leake & Neshoba Counties: Ward's vote total of 8394 to Kilgore's 8329. Absentee ballots in Winston will determine the winner unless a recount is required. Winston Co. absentees will be counted starting at 4 pm today. Here's the link to Neshoba Democrat's article.
In House District 43 where Michael Evans (D) leads incumbent Russ Nowell (R) by 151 votes, not only are absentee ballots in Winston County yet to be counted but an apparent poll mix up in Kemper County may complicate the race. According to WCBI, some District 43 voters may have been improperly included in District 42 and therefore voted in the wrong district. Few details are available at this time - here is the link to WCBI's update.
In the Winston County Liquor Referendum, 583 votes separate "For" and "Against" as the For vote recieved 54.09% of the vote. Given the number of absentee ballots remaining (976), 80% of these (780) must vote "Against" the referendum for it to fail. This appears unlikely and the Liquor Referendum allowing the sale of alcoholic liquors in the county will likely pass.
More updates as they become available.
