Local officials are engaging in discussions with their counterparts in Leake, Neshoba and Attala Counties concerning the possibility of establishing an alliance across county lines. WWN has learned that informal discussions have been taking place recently in hopes of establishing support for a cooperative effort in economic development, marketing and political action that would benefit all communities involved.
As one official stated, " We would rather not look at this as competitors with a this is yours and this is mine attitude but as a way to work together to improve our entire area."
Officials hope to increase the area's political clout by combining resources and population bases to provide a stronger voice in Jackson and Washington as well as encourage industry and trade within the area. Further meetings with government officials, and economic development personnel are planned in the near future.
